What's this project all about?
We’re upgrading our Brickport Road Sewage Pump Station, located at the corner of Brickport Road and the Bass Highway, to bring the site up to modern safety and environmental standards.
As part of the works, we’ll be installing a new magnesium hydroxide dosing unit on a secure hardstand area with safer access for crews. This unit will also be connected to our remote monitoring system (SCADA) to allow for smarter, more responsive network management.
Magnesium hydroxide plays a key role in reducing hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) in the wastewater network. This gas causes strong odours - similar to rotten eggs - and can damage underground pipes. By improving how we manage odour and corrosion, we’re aiming to reduce complaints from nearby residents and help our infrastructure last longer.
Works are scheduled Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.
What to expect during the works
We are committed to minimising disruptions to the community, but you may notice some temporary impacts during construction, including:
- Increased vehicle and crew activities in the area, including trucks, machinery, and contractor vehicles
- Traffic management will be in place to manage safety, maintain property access, and reduce local traffic impacts - please anticipate minor traffic delays during the works
- Construction noise during work hours.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out this important upgrade for the Cooee community.
