17 December 2025 - Project Construction Update

17 December 2025

We’ve made good progress on the installation of the new outfall pipeline at Shipwrights Point, an important part of our commitment to improving environmental outcomes for the region.

The pipe welding of the new outfall pipeline has now been completed. The next step involves pulling approximately 350 metres of the new pipeline through the prepared reamed underwater section, from the outfall location back towards land and out at the Horizontal Directional Drill site. This activity is scheduled to be completed ahead of schedule by 17 December 2025.

The site will pause over the Christmas period, with works stopping from 18 December 2025 and restarting on 6 January 2026.

In January, crews will return to the site to weld the spreader pipe and complete the installation at the diffuser section, 260 metres offshore. The diffuser forms part of the outfall system and is designed to help manage flows safely during infrequent, high-rainfall overflow events.

Design work for the new 4.3-kilometre pipeline along the Huon Highway between the Geeveston Sewage Treatment Plant and Shipwrights Point is progressing well, and the final design is expected to be completed during the early months of 2026.

Work on a new 79-kilolitre emergency storage tank and pump station at the treatment plant is planned to commence in March 2026.

We appreciate the community’s support as we deliver this essential upgrade to protect the environment and support the region’s future.
