About
What's this project all about?
As part of our commitment to improving water infrastructure across Tasmania, we’re replacing sections of water main along Liverpool Street and Murray Street in the Hobart CBD.
Why is this work needed?
The current water main in this area was installed in the 1940's and has unfortunately experienced multiple failures in recent times. The renewal of these sections of main has been fast tracked to minimise the risk of future disruptions to local businesses and the community.
What to expect during these works?
The new water main on Liverpool Street between Murray Street and Harrington Street is now fully operational with all service and property connections completed.
Work will now begin on the Murray Street section, between Liverpool Street and Collins Street.
The new pipe will be laid in the Centrepoint Arcade side of the road, with new property connections installed under the footpath.
To reduce impacts on business operations and traffic through the city, we will be undertaking these works at night.
Work hours will be 9:00pm to 6:00am, Sunday to Thursday each week.
We are committed to minimising disruptions to the community, but you may notice some temporary impacts, including:
- Increased vehicle movements including heavy machinery
- Work crews in the area
- Construction noise and dust
Traffic Management will be in place during the works, with sections of Liverpool, Murray and Collins Streets reduced to a single lane and/or limited vehicle access at various times, and some on street parking restrictions.
All lanes will be open during the day and on street parking will be available as normal (7am-7pm).
Unfortunately, these impacts are unavoidable during construction.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience as we deliver this important project.
