What's this project all about?
TasWater is planning to replace sections of ageing water mains in Westbury to improve water quality and service reliability for the local community.
This project will focus on two key areas:
Marriott Street: The existing 100mm cast iron water main, originally installed in 1900, has been the source of frequent community complaints due to water quality issues. We will replace 170 metres of this unlined main - from Meander Valley Road to 19 Marriott Street, just north of the railway line - with new 100mm PVC pipe.
Meander Valley Road: The current water main, a mix of 100mm and 50mm cast iron pipes laid in 1960, will be upgraded between Marriott Street and Peyton Street. A total of 325 metres of new 150mm PVC pipe will be installed to improve flow capacity and reliability.
These upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, clean drinking water and ensuring our infrastructure meets the needs of the community, now and into the future.
What to expect during the works
We are committed to minimising disruptions to the community, but you may notice some temporary impacts during the works, including:
- Excavation
- Construction noise and dust
- Traffic management will be in place to manage safety, maintain property access, and minimise impacts to local traffic. Please anticipate minor traffic delays during the works
- Increased vehicle and crew movements in the area, including machinery, trucks, TasWater vehicles, and contractor vehicles
- Some properties may experience short-term access restrictions during construction – our crews will work closely with affected customers to reduce any inconvenience.
We thank you for your patience as we deliver this important project.
