TasWater is investing in vital sewerage upgrades to protect our environment and support Tasmania’s growing communities.
Work is underway to install a new subsea pipeline across Gage Cove, linking the Old Beach sewage pump station with the Herdsmans Cove shoreline. Once complete, the pipeline will connect into the existing sewerage network at both shores.
This work has been prioritised as urgent following recent pipeline breaks. The new pipeline will:
- Reduce environmental risks by providing a more reliable system.
- Increase capacity to meet the needs of Old Beach and the surrounding areas as the community grows.
Work began in late September 2025, with crews on site between 7 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday.
During construction, you may notice:
- Increased activity along the shoreline at Old Beach and Herdsmans Cove, including trenching works and construction equipment.
- More vessel movements on the water while the pipeline is being installed.
- Temporary access restrictions will be in place on the Old Beach foreshore trail near the Stanfield Drive Sewage Pump Station starting 16 October for approximately two weeks. Please follow all on-site signage.
There is one short period of night work required to connect the new pipeline into the existing network. This work needs to be carried out at nighttime when network flow levels are at their lowest.
Night works are scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, 5 November between 7 pm and 6 am.
We’ll keep disruptions to a minimum and thank the community for their patience while we deliver this important upgrade to protect the health of our waterways.
