Since creation, the palawa have lived here in lutruwita - Tasmania. Over 2,000 generations of Aboriginal families have cared for this Country, looking after its lands, seas, skies and waterways.
In the spirit of respect and gratitude, TasWater acknowledges the Tasmanian Aboriginal community as the traditional and ongoing custodians. We pay our respects to them, their culture and to elders past and present. We also acknowledge any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are here with us today.

TasWater (“we” “our” “us”) recognises that the privacy of all people it deals with is important and we are committed to protecting any personal information and sensitive information we collect, store, use and/or disclose.
We are bound by the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 (Tas) (‘PIP Act’) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (‘Privacy Act’) including the Australian Privacy Principles and the Personal Information Protection Principles (“Principles’). The Principles regulate the way personal information is collected, used and disclosed.

Information collected
TasWater collects personal information for the purposes of providing water and sewerage services to our customers, which can include:
- Customers name, residential and postal address, email address, phone numbers and date of birth
- Property ownership and occupancy details
- Financial details such as bank accounts and credit card details
- Health information to identify special need customers
- Government reference numbers to assist in verification of concessions
We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we hold is complete and up to date. We will check with you on the accuracy of your personal information from time to time.
Sensitive information
If we collect information which is sensitive information such as health information to identify special need customers, we will seek your written consent first before collection and we will only use and disclose that information for the purposes which you consented to.
Anonymity
If you are making a general enquiry, it may not be necessary to identify yourself. However, if you want to obtain a service, identification may be necessary.
Unique identifiers
We do not assign unique identifiers to people unless it is necessary for us to carry out our functions efficiently or is required by law. We do not adopt as our unique identifiers the unique identifiers from another organisation. However, we may collect the unique identifiers assigned to you by another organisation, for example for verification of entitlement to a concession, but we will not disclose these without lawful authority.
Access to and correction of information collected
The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 provide that you can access your personal information that is held us.
If you would like to access your personal information, or you consider the personal information to be incorrect, incomplete, out of date or misleading, you can request that the information be corrected. Use and disclosure of personal information
We generally use personal information to provide water and sewerage services. We may also use personal information for our general business operations or as required by law.
This may include:
- connections and disconnections for the supply of water and sewerage services
- to provide you with access to products and services we offer
- to communicate with you or your authorised representative about your account, this includes issuing and payment of bills, service messages, complaints and updating records
- to administer, maintain and improve our products and services
- for competitions and promotions, research and marketing
- for recruitment and employment applications
- for management, training and development of employees and contractors
- in the event of an emergency including where we need to access your property for urgent repairs or maintenance.
As part of providing our services and operating our business we disclose personal information to the following agents, contractors and service providers who perform business functions or activities such as:
- bill printers
- customer service software providers
- data analytics providers
- service providers or contractors (for the provision of water and sewer services and connections)
- debt collection agencies (for collection of unpaid debts)
- recruitment agencies and recruitment platform providers (for recruitment, talent pooling and employment related purposes)
- our Board and shareholders
- Government agencies such as Centrelink (for establishing or verifying eligibility for concessions).
We will not share or disclose your sensitive information unless you have provided your written consent, or we are legally required to.
Security of personal information
We use a number of procedural, physical, and technical safeguards, including access controls, secure methods of communication and back-up and recovery systems to protect information from misuse and loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
TasWater’s management of information is also in accordance with processes approved by the State Archivist under the Archives Act 1983.
Questions and complaints
Complaints about the treatment of personal information including any possible breach of the Privacy Act, Personal Information Protection Act 2024 or this Privacy Policy by us must be made in writing (letter or email) and address to the Privacy Officer.

The following Terms and Conditions govern the use of TasWater Your Say (“Your Say”). The software platform is owned by Social Pinpoint Pty Ltd and operated by us, Tasmanian Water & Sewerage Corporation Pty Ltd ("TasWater").
By accessing and using this site, you are choosing to accept and comply with the Terms presented throughout this agreement as well as the Privacy Policy and Moderation Policy. These Terms apply to all visitors and users of this site. Linked sites, affiliated services or third party content or software have their own Terms that you must comply with. If you disagree with any of the Terms presented in this agreement, you may discontinue using the site immediately.
If you are under 18 years old, please ensure that your parent or guardian understands and accepts these Terms and Conditions (including the Privacy Policy and Moderation Policy).
What are the conditions with a user’s account?
While using the site, you must not violate any applicable laws and regulations. It is our duty to protect the confidentiality of content you provide on our site in accordance with our Privacy Policy. When you create an account with us, you must always provide us with accurate information. Failure to provide accurate information violates the Terms, which may result in immediate termination of your account on our service. You are responsible for protecting your own password you use for this site and for any activities done under that password. What do we require from our users?

- you cannot interrupt or interfere with the site or servers or networks connected to the site
- you cannot attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or other use accounts
Can your account be suspended or terminated?
We may terminate or suspend access to your site and/or account immediately, without prior notice, including without limitation if you breach the Terms. We may immediately deactivate or delete your account and all the related files and information in your account. After your account has been terminated, the content you have posted may also remain indefinitely on the site.

Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed in accordance with the laws of Tasmania, Australia, without regards to its conflict of law provisions.
Indemnification
TasWater, its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, agents, licensors and other partners are not responsible for any loss, liability, claim, or demand, including legal fees, made by any third party due to or arising from a breach of this agreement and/or any breach of your representations and warranties set forth above.
What content do we own?
This website contains the copyrighted material, trademarks, patents, trade secrets and other proprietary information (“Intellectual Property”) of TasWater and its suppliers and licensors. TasWater owns and retains all proprietary rights in the intellectual property. All intellectual property in the content of this site including without limitation to text, software, source code, pages, documents and online graphics, photographs, sounds, audio, video and other interactive features are owned by or licensed to us.
Any original content that you submit or post on our site may be made available to the public and allows users to share your content (with the end user acknowledging your contribution) under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 Australian License.
Except for Intellectual Property which is in the public domain or for which you have been given written permission, you may not copy, alter, transmit, sell, distribute any of the Intellectual Property on this site.
We are not responsible for your communications or dealings, including payment and delivery of goods or services, with a third party found via our website. Any loss or damage incurred from those communications or dealings are solely between the user and the third party.
Disclaimer and Warranties
