What's this project all about?

At TasWater, we’re committed to providing safe and reliable sewage services for all Tasmanians. As part of this promise, we’re installing a new sewer rising main along the Esplanade in Rosny.

The new 1.4-kilometre sewer pipeline will be installed between the Montagu Bay Sewage Pumping Station (adjacent Kellatie Rd) and the Rosny Sewage Treatment Plant (corner of Balak St and the Eastern end of Rosny Esplanade). This work will replace the existing aging pipe to ensure a more reliable and environmentally responsible sewage network for the area.

This important project helps protect our environment and will prevent service disruptions by replacing an aging pipe that has experienced repeated leaks and breakages. During early inspections, we identified a heavily corroded section and took immediate emergency repair action to bypass this area and keep services running smoothly.

Planning and design for the renewal are now complete, with construction expected to begin in early 2026. This project is an important step towards a stronger, more dependable sewage system that helps protect the local environment and reduces the risk of future service disruptions for the Rosny community.

What to expect during the works

To carry out early works safely, temporary traffic controls will be in place at times along the Esplanade. Some delays are likely, and we kindly ask everyone to follow signage and instructions to help keep our workers and community safe.

During the work you may notice an increase in construction vehicles, dust, noise and potentially odour.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this essential upgrade to support reliable services and a healthier environment for our community, now and into the future.
