About this project

What's this project all about?

We’re planning important upgrades to improve the reliability of Burnie’s water supply. A key section of the water network between Seaview Avenue and Princes Street currently runs through a known landslip area, which poses an ongoing risk to the city’s water service.

To address this, we will decommission the existing water main in the affected area and install a new water main along West Park Grove. This new main will provide a more secure and resilient primary water feed to the Burnie City Centre, moving critical infrastructure away from unstable ground.

These works will help protect the city’s water supply from potential disruption, support future growth, and ensure we can continue to deliver reliable, high-quality water to the Burnie community for years to come.

What to expect during the works

  • Construction noise and dust
  • Traffic management will be in place to manage safety, maintain property access, and minimise impacts to local traffic. Please anticipate minor traffic delays during the works
  • Increased vehicle and crew movements in the area, including machinery, trucks, TasWater vehicles, and contractor vehicles
  • Some properties may experience short-term access restrictions during construction – our crews will work closely with affected customers to reduce any inconvenience.

Project notices

Geotechnical investigations - December 2025:

As part of our commitment to investing in new and improved water infrastructure, we’ll be undertaking preliminary geotechnical investigations in Parklands, with contractors working along sections of West Park Grove from Monday, 8 December until Friday, 12 December 2025. All works will take place between 9.30am and 2.30pm. Should these hours of work change due to weather or site conditions, we will let you know with as much notice as possible.

What is it?

Geotechnical drilling is a type of drilling performed to analyse sites to help inform our designs for a future new water main in the area prior to construction.

What will you notice?

During these works you may notice:

  • A vacuum truck to undertake the service investigations.
  • A small truck mounted drill rig, water truck and support vehicles on site to conduct small hole boring into the road surface.
  • The drilling rig will remain on site during this period. The immediate area around the site will be barricaded for public safety.
  • Minor asphalt repair works.
  • Traffic controllers on site to ensure impacts to local traffic movements are minimised and maintain access properties.

  • Construction related noise and dust

Will it affect your water service?

No interruptions to your water services are planned as part of these works.
