What's this project all about?

We are undertaking a project to replace a section of the sewer main along Talbot Road in South Launceston.

The existing main is nearly 90 years old and has experienced numerous failures in recent years, leading to sewage overflows. Its current route crosses Talbot Road, a crucial arterial road with high traffic. After careful consideration, we have decided to install the sewer along a new alignment.

The new installation will involve approximately 250 meters of gravity sewer running between 14 Talbot Road and 6 Talbot Road. From there, it will diverge from the existing path, drilling beneath Lawrence Vale Road, traversing the park, and connecting to the pipeline on Chungon Crescent.

This new pipeline aims to significantly reduce the risk of failures that have previously affected the local environment and community.

What you will notice during our works

Initially, there will be construction activity in the walkway between 9 and 11 Chungong Crescent and in Chungong Crescent Park including excavation, truck and vehicle movements, heavy equipment and staff.

At the completion of this stage, works will move to Eastbourne Street and Lawrence Vale Road.

Work will take place Monday to Friday, from 7.30am until 5.00pm.

During the works temporary safety fencing and traffic management will be in place so you should expect some restrictions to parking and modified access to some parts of the park.

While TasWater and our contractors make every effort to reduce our impact on the surrounding community, it is our hope that locals will understand there will be some short-term disruption to deliver a long-term benefit.
