New Spring Bay Pipeline for Orford and Triabunna

12 September 2025

Construction update: New Spring Bay pipeline completed

A vital link in the long-term water supply for Orford and Triabunna was secured with the construction of a new underwater pipeline.

The new 885-metre pipeline replaced the 76-year-old cast iron cement-lined pipeline across Spring Bay, addressing recent corrosion issues and strengthening the region’s water supply infrastructure.

To resolve the challenges caused by corrosion and pipe movement, TasWater installed a durable new pipeline with concrete anchors placed every 10 metres along the seabed to keep it securely in place.

This upgrade provided greater protection against damage and ensured a more dependable water supply for the long term. The new pipeline was connected to the existing water network on both shores through excavated trenches.

Work on the new pipeline was completed with minimal disruption to residents and local businesses.

This project marked a significant step in improving water supply reliability for the Orford and Triabunna communities.
