What's this project all about?

TasWater is upgrading the existing sewer pipe crossing along the St Marys Rivulet between Groom Street and Aulichs Lane, St Marys. Over time, natural erosion and changes in the waterway’s path have exposed a section of the sewer pipe that was originally installed underground.

This project will involve replacing the exposed PVC pipe with a new cement-encased structure to protect the asset and ensure long-term service reliability.

It’s part of our ongoing commitment to protecting the local environment and supporting the needs of a growing community.

Why are we doing this?

The existing pipe has become exposed due to the natural shifting of the rivulet. If left as-is, it risks being damaged during heavy rain or flood events, which could lead to environmental harm or service interruptions.

By replacing the pipe now, we are:

  • Reducing the risk of infrastructure failure
  • Protecting the surrounding environment and waterway
  • Ensuring continued reliable sewer services for the community
  • Avoiding the need for more disruptive or emergency repairs in the future
