August 2025 Construction Update

13 August 2025

As part of the Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan (TERHAP), we are making significant progress in delivering new sewerage infrastructure for the city, aiming to improve the health of the Kanamaluka/Tamar estuary and its surrounding environment.

Ti Tree Bend – New Covered Storage Tank

This state-of-the-art facility is taking shape with the help of skilled Tasmanian contractors.

  • Roof nearing completion: The last section of the concrete roof is expected to be finished in August, completing the 10-megalitre reinforced concrete storage tank.
  • Built to last: Constructed with over 3,500 cubic metres of concrete and 750 tonnes of
  • Next stage underway: Electrical, mechanical, and civil works have begun to connect the new tank to the existing sewerage network.

In June, part of the tank was successfully filled with treated effluent to test waterproofing. The final section will be tested in September.

King’s Park – Sewer Pipeline Diversion

Installation of the West Launceston Sewer Pipeline Diversion is progressing well, working with infrastructure more than 140 years old. Once complete, this upgrade will improve how sewage is captured, transferred, and treated across greater Launceston.

Landscaping and reinstatement of the parkland will follow, with the area expected to reopen later in the year.

Looking ahead
The remainder of 2025 will be a busy period on-site as we move towards commissioning. These works represent a turning point in Launceston’s sewer network — reducing overflows, improving water quality, and supporting the long-term health of the estuary.

We’re proud to be working alongside so many skilled Tasmanian businesses to deliver these improvements for our community and the Kanamaluka/Tamar estuary.
