Music, milestones and concrete acoustics at Ti Tree Bend

23 September 2025

At TasWater, we’re not just building infrastructure — we’re creating something that will serve Tasmania for generations. And at Ti Tree Bend, our team recently took a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate in a way that was anything but ordinary.

With all major concrete works now complete on the site’s new 10-megalitre covered sewage storage tank — an achievement delivered five months ahead of schedule — our project team marked the occasion with a truly unforgettable experience.

Before the roof was sealed, the tank’s acoustics created a rare opportunity: a vast, echoing chamber unlike anything else. Local harpist and vocalist Emily Sanzaro was invited to perform inside the space, giving a one-of-a-kind private performance to the crew who had worked so hard to bring this major milestone to life.

Why this structure matters

While the performance was a beautiful moment, the real story is what this tank will achieve. It’s a key part of the Ti Tree Bend upgrade, helping to improve Launceston’s sewage treatment system and protect the health of the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.

Once operational, this covered storage tank will help manage wet weather flows, reducing the risk of untreated overflows into the environment — a major step toward delivering long-term environmental benefits for the region.

Watch the performance

We’re pleased to share both full-length recordings from the performance. Take a few moments to hear how this massive concrete space transformed into a concert hall — before it’s sealed forever.
