November 2025 – Construction Update

13 November 2025

Major upgrades are well advanced on the new 10-megalitre covered storage facility at Ti Tree Bend, which is a key part of the Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan. These works represent an important step in enhancing the health of the Kanamaluka/Tamar Estuary.

The new 10-megalitre covered storage tank is now structurally complete, marking a significant milestone for the project. Constructing the tank involved more than 3,500 cubic metres of concrete and 750 tonnes of reinforcing steel, creating a strong new asset for the community.

With the tank structure finished, our teams, alongside skilled Tasmanian contractors, are now focused on the next phase of work. This includes installing electrical, mechanical, and civil infrastructure to connect the new tank into the existing network. More than 300 metres of new underground pipework will be installed, along with the placement of around 25,000 tonnes of soil to reinstate the area surrounding the tank.

New pumps, stainless-steel pipework, and access platforms are also being installed to support the ongoing operation and maintenance of the facility. A new switch room building has been delivered and positioned on site, and work is underway to install the cabling and equipment that will power and monitor the tank’s systems.

Waterproof testing of the tank that used treated effluent has now been completed. These tests helped ensure the new infrastructure performs reliably once fully connected to the broader network.

Some of the pipes and assets we are working with are more than 140 years old. Upgrading this ageing infrastructure involved a detailed and methodical process, and we’ve been supported by the expertise of the local businesses, helping us deliver this work.

The project also recently reached a key operational milestone with the pipeline from our New Margaret Street Pump Station to the Ti Tree Bend tank now complete and fully functional in readiness for use early in 2026.

During October, we hosted a full-scale confined space rescue exercise with the Tasmania Fire Service at our Ti Tree Bend site. The drill simulated a realistic rescue scenario and allowed teams to practise responding to a “trapped worker” situation.

These exercises help us confirm that our safety systems, equipment, and procedures are working effectively. They also strengthen our partnership with emergency services and support safe operations across the site. You can view our safety drill video here: Fire Drill

Planning is also underway for reinstating the surrounding parkland area at Kings Park, near our New Margaret Street Pump Station, later this year.
