October 2025 - Construction Update

10 October 2025

The Ti-Tree Bend Sewage Treatment Plant Covered Storage Project continues to progress well, with several key milestones achieved in recent weeks.

The project includes the construction of a new 10-megalitre network storage facility comprising two compartments, an overflow tank, and a balance tank.

The structural concrete works are now complete. The overflow tank has successfully passed its recent waterproofing test, using approximately seven million litres of recycled effluent.

As part of the work to transfer future flows to these new tanks, new pipework connections have been installed on the Hope Street Rising Main. The installation of new large stainless-steel pipes and operational valves within the pump chamber is now underway. Work to install the below-ground pipe network around the tank continues.

Recently, we completed factory-based acceptance testing of the new power systems, with delivery to the site scheduled in the coming week.

At our Margaret Street construction site, all new pipes have been installed, and construction of the connecting pits is progressing well. We also recently removed the temporary shipping containers. Later this year, we plan to begin work to prepare for site revegetation and landscaping work later in 2025.

Together, these works represent a big step forward in upgrading Launceston’s sewerage network, supporting a cleaner estuary, and delivering long-term benefits for the community and the environment.
