September 2025 Construction Update

8 September 2025

As part of the Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan (TERHAP), we’re making steady progress on new sewerage infrastructure that will help improve the health of Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary and the environment that surrounds it.

At our Ti Tree Bend site, several key milestones have been reached:

  • The final section of the 10-megalitre covered storage tank roof has been poured, completing all structural concrete works more than five months ahead of schedule.
  • The new sewer pipeline under the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary has now been connected through the settlement pond wall.
  • The mechanical pipework inside the underground wet well is now complete.

We’ve also received delivery of pumps, valves, and much of the site’s pipework, with installation works underway.

At our Margaret Street site, progress continues on the new Sewer Diversion pipeline. The old brick barrel drain has now been strengthened, with pipe laying works moving ahead along the alignment. This represents a significant step toward enhancing the capture and transfer of sewage across the network.

Looking ahead, during September, we’ll begin hydro testing by filling the large overflow tanks at Ti Tree Bend. This important step ensures the new infrastructure is performing as designed before it goes into operation. Later in September, we’ll begin removing the double-stacked shipping containers and mural artwork to prepare for site revegetation and landscaping work later in 2025.

Together, these works represent a big step forward in upgrading Launceston’s sewerage network, supporting a cleaner estuary and delivering long-term benefits for the community and the environment.
