Overview

What's this project all about?

TasWater currently operates 51 water filling station locations around Tasmania.

These water filling stations are public access points where registered users, including water carters and council contractors, can refill with clean drinking water. They are often installed near open and accessible public spaces or roadside areas to provide convenient access for registered users to safe drinking water.

TasWater is looking to upgrade a number of sites to introduce an electronic monitoring system, making it easier to record water usage while improving site safety and access. We will also upgrade some sites to create better space for trucks to pull in and fill up.

As part of these new or upgraded projects, we will investigate potential options and locations and consult with key stakeholders on our designs and preferred locations.

Once these important steps are completed, we expect construction or upgrades to take place within the next several years.

The Water Filling Stations project is mainly focusing on the following locations:

  • Chigwell: Upgrade the existing water filling station in Arunta Crescent.
  • Bicheno, Huonville and Longford: Relocate existing water filling stations to more suitable locations and upgrade the sites.
  • Hobart: Installation of a new water filling station. Potential sites include outside our new Sewage Treatment Plant on Selfs Point Road, New Town.
