Clarence Street Water Main Renewal Completed

6 February 2026

TasWater is pleased to confirm that the new water main has been successfully installed, and all remediation works including pavement works and line marking are now completed.

As part of this important work, we:

  • Replaced 500 metres of aging water main
  • Connected over 30 residents’ water meters to the new main
  • Resealed all affected footpath sections

These upgrades will reduce the risk of future water main failures, improve the reliability of water supply for Clarence Street customers, and reflect TasWater’s ongoing commitment to investing in improving essential infrastructure and delivering dependable water services to Tasmanians.

We would like to express our gratitude to local residents, businesses, and the wider community for their patience and understanding while we undertook this important upgrade project.

Water main upgrade boosting reliability for Clarence Street locals

Beneath the surface of a busy arterial in Bellerive, an important upgrade has been completed along Clarence Street.

Stretching from the Tasmanian Animal Hospital through to South Street Reserve, more than 750 metres of water main has been renewed, linking nearby homes to a new main and helping ensure a more reliable water supply for the local community.

The project involved replacing an ageing section of water main more than 75 years old that had been prone to leaks and breakages.

The upgrade is designed to improve the reliability of the water supply, enhance water quality and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance and repairs into the future.

TasWater Community Engagement Specialist Dan Phillips explained the longstanding issues with the water main along the busy arterial road.

“This section of water main had a history of leaks and breakages, which had been a source of frustration with residents,” Mr Phillips said.

“By replacing it, we’re improving the reliability and quality of water supplied to local homes and businesses, while also strengthening the network to reduce maintenance and repair needs into the future.

“We’re grateful to the Clarence Street residents and businesses for bearing with us during the works. Managing heavy machinery, traffic movements and temporary on- street parking impacts isn’t always easy, and we thank residents for their cooperation while we upgraded the local water network.”

This project forms part of TasWater’s ongoing commitment to improving water infrastructure across Tasmania and ensuring customers continue to receive a safe and reliable water supply.
