Extra points for creativity. Your tip must be your own idea and not copied from another source.

You must upload both:

  • A photo or short video that demonstrates your tip
  • and a short caption explaining how it works.

Do not share

  • Personal information
  • Identities of people who did not give express permission to be included in your content.
  • Content created by another person or organisation.

To enter the competition:

  1. Register or sign in to your YourSay TasWater account. We need this information to be able to contact winners and manage submissions to the competition.
  2. Upload your photo or video that demonstrates your water-saving tip.
  3. Add a short caption explaining your idea.
  4. Submit your entry.

Users must be over 18. Parents or guardians can submit on behalf of a child.

Yes. By entering, you give TasWater permission to use your photo or video for promotional purposes across our website, social media, and other channels. We’ll aim to credit you where possible.

Entries may be shared in TasWater’s social media channels, websites and communications channels – including Facebook and Instagram.

Terms and Conditions for water conservation tips competition 'Water Hacks Wanted'

The promoter is Tasmanian Water & Sewerage Corporation Pty Ltd ABN 47 162 220 653 (TasWater) whose registered office is at 169 Main Road Moonah TASMANIA 7009. Information on how to enter, mechanics of entry and the prizes form part of these Terms and Conditions. Entry into the promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions govern the submission of stories ("Content") by the general public ("Entrant") to TasWater ("Promoter") as part of Tasmania’s Water Story: Your role in saving our thing user generated competition ("Competition").

1. Promotional Period

The promotion commences at 12.00AM (AEST) on Friday 13 February 2026 and ends at 11.59 PM (AEST) on Tuesday 30 June 2026 (“Promotion Period”).

2. Eligibility and Submission

a) The Competition is open to all residents of the State of Tasmania who are 18 years or older at the time of entry. Anyone under that age must have the story submitted by their parent or legal guardian.

b) Directors, officers, employees, and related entities – as well as their immediate family members are not eligible to enter the competition. Immediate family members mean any family member who resides with a TasWater employee. Staff can upload a water-saving tip to share via the official website, however they are not eligible to win a prize.

3. Content Usage and Licensing Rights

Entries may be shared in TasWater’s social media channels – including Facebook and Instagram – during the competition period to promote the project and showcase.

Grant of license: By submitting Content to the Competition, the Entrant grants the Promoter a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display the Content (in whole or in part) in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed.

Scope of use: This includes, but is not limited to, using the Content for promotional, marketing, and informational purposes across all of the Promoter's owned channels, including websites, social media platforms, reports, internal documents, public displays, and press releases.

No obligation to use: The Promoter is not obligated to use any submitted Content.

Acknowledgement: The Promoter will endeavour to credit the Entrant where reasonably possible, but the Entrant acknowledges that credit may not be feasible in all forms of publication.

Warranties: The Entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Promoter from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from the Promoter's use of the Content, including claims related to infringement of copyright or other intellectual property rights.

Release: By entering, the Entrant releases the Promoter from any liability whatsoever for any loss, damage, injury, or death that may occur in connection with the Competition or the Promoter’s subsequent use of the Content.

4. How to Enter

To enter the competition, the Entrant must, during the Promotional Period, access "https://yoursay.taswater.com.au/community-stories/water-saving-tips" (Promotional Website) and:

Register or sign in to your YourSay TasWater account.

Upload a photo or video demonstrating your water-saving tip.

Add a short caption explaining your idea.

Submit your entry. Entrants must submit an original water-saving tip that shows how they save water either at home, in the garden, or in the community. Their idea can be:

A simple water-saving habit that makes a big difference.

A creative way to reuse water.

A clever gardening or household trick or hack which saves or reduces water usage.

A water-saving behaviour change that’s worked for your family or household.

Any tip submitted must be the Entrant’s own idea and not copied from another source. Multiple entries per person are permitted.

Entries will be deemed accepted at the time of receipt by the Promoter and not at the time of transmission. Entries received will be considered final by the Promoter. Incomplete, inaccurate, erroneous, ineligible or incomprehensible entries will be deemed invalid. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries. Contact details entered incorrectly by an Entrant on their entry form will deem the entry invalid.

Costs associated with accessing the TasWater website remain an Entrant's responsibility and may vary depending on the Internet service or telecommunication provider used.

The Entrant warrants that the Content is their original work, has not been previously published, and does not infringe upon the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.

5. Winner Determination

TasWater is giving away four monthly prizes. All eligible Entries received throughout the Promotional Period in accordance with Condition 4 (How to Enter) will be determined by the highest number of likes received during the month. The monthly winner will be drawn on the last day of each month in 2026, being:

February 28 2026

March 31 2026

April 30 2026

May 31 2026.

The winner of the ‘Grand Prize’ will be drawn on Tuesday 30 June 2026 at TasWater Head Office, 169 Main Road Moonah TASMANIA 7009. The winner will be chosen based on the most likes over the duration of the promotional period. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

All winners will be notified in writing by email and phone within three (3) days of the draw. The first and last name, as well as location of each winner, will be published on the TasWater website “https://yoursay.taswater.com.au/community-stories/..." and via Instagram @tas_water (https://www.instagram.com/tas_water/) and Facebook @TasWater (https://www.facebook.com/TasWater1) and will remain on the website for no less than 28 days and on Instagram and Facebook accounts in perpetuity.

6. Prizes

Each monthly prize winner will be able to choose one item from the list below:

The grand prize winner to be drawn on 30 June 2026 will receive a $1,000 Bunnings voucher.

No part of the prize is exchangeable for cash or any other prize. Prizes will be ordered by TasWater and sent directly to the winner. No further correspondence should be entered into with TasWater once the prize delivery is confirmed. Prizes may vary depending on availability.

7. General

If the promotion is not capable of running as planned for any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, including because of war, terrorism, state of emergency or disaster (including natural disaster), infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, technical failures, directions of regulators or industry self-regulatory bodies or any which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion and/or if necessary to provide alternative prize(s) to the same value as the original prize(s), subject to any written directions made under applicable legislation.

The Promoter exclude all liability (including negligence) except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law (including any applicable consumer guarantee under the Consumer Law), for any direct or indirect injury, loss and/or damage arising in any way out of the promotion. This includes, but is not limited to: (i) technical malfunctions, delays or failures, including those resulting from accessing any materials related to this promotion and any incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information communicated in the course of, or in connection with, this promotion as a result of any technical malfunctions, delays or failures; (ii) theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (iii) lost or damaged entries, prize claims or prize(s); and/or (iv) acceptance and/or use of any prize.

All of the Promoter’s decisions in respect of the promotion are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

8. Privacy

TasWater (“we”, “our”, “us”) are bound by the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 (Tas) and the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cwlth). The information you provide to us will be used to provide water, sewerage and ancillary services to you, which includes customer communication, account billing and concessions, development applications and handling of complaints. We will only disclose your personal information to a third party, such as contractors and agents we engage to perform or assist in a relevant function or activity, if it is required in the provision of services to you. We will not disclose your personal information to anyone else, unless you have given consent, or we are authorised or required by law to do so. Our Privacy Policy describes when this might occur. Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. If you choose not to provide us with your personal information, we will be unable to process any applications or complaints and may not be able to provide you with water, sewerage and ancillary services. We will manage your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act, the Australian Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act 1988.
