Regional Towns Water Supply Program – Construction Update September 2025

29 September 2025

Ellendale water supply pipeline

The Regional Towns Water Supply Program continues to move ahead with the recent commissioning of the Ellendale water supply pipeline, now supplying water to the Ellendale community. The pipeline and pump station connecting the Ellendale community to the nearby Fentonbury Water Treatment Plant means the community will no longer have to rely on the Jones River for its water supply or cart in water during summer.

In the long term, TasWater will decommission the ageing Ellendale plant, leaving one improved plant that will provide a much more efficient service for the region.

Bothwell and Oatlands Construction Update

  • Works will start in October to replace the existing Water Treatment Plants in both towns.
  • During construction, community members may notice an increase in heavy vehicle movements in the area, noise and temporary traffic arrangements as required.
  • Please follow all signage and directions in place to keep the community and our people safe as they complete this essential work.

Progress across other regional towns

  • Construction of the additional reservoir at St Marys was completed mid-year.
  • Work is well underway on the additional reservoir at Dover with work on the access road upgrade complete and works now beginning to construct the new reservoir.
  • Our team is now onsite at Franklin with a temporary tank installed so construction can begin on the new reservoir.

These upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to improving water services in regional Tasmania. We’ll continue to keep you informed as we reach key milestones in each town.
