Construction Update - Cornelian Bay Oval Laydown Area

19 May 2025

As part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project, TasWater will use a portion of Cornelian Bay Oval as a temporary laydown area to support construction activities. This follows the City of Hobart’s approval of our lease request in December 2024, which took into account community feedback received during our engagement process.

Refinements in our construction approach have enabled several positive outcomes:

  • Reduced footprint – The laydown area has been scaled back by approximately 40%, allowing for more recreational space to remain accessible during our presence.
  • Improved access and safety – A single, safer access point for construction vehicles will now be used.
  • Shorter duration – With improved project efficiencies, the laydown area will be in place for less than 12 months, down from the originally anticipated 18-month timeframe.

To help visualise the laydown site, we have included concept artwork on this page.

What to expect during site establishment
Work to establish the site is expected to begin in early June 2025. During this period, local residents and visitors may notice:

  • Increased activity and vehicle movements
  • More workers and contractors on site
  • Temporary changes to some on-street parking on the oval side of the road
  • Work hours will be Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

TasWater is committed to delivering this essential project with minimal impact, while supporting Hobart’s future growth and improving environmental outcomes for the Derwent.
