Cornelian Bay Oval – Construction Update

28 November 2025

Works are progressing well on the next section of the new sewer pipeline through Cornelian Bay Oval. As we head into the festive season, activity will increase around the Cornelian Bay area.

Cornelian Bay Oval

What to expect

  • Pipeline installation works will continue until 19 December.
  • Crews will begin backfilling trenches, placing topsoil, and re-seeding grass.
  • Fenced work areas will remain in place over the festive period while the site is unattended.
Vegetation Works

Following recent refinements to the pipeline design, the new pipe will now be installed in the grassed area on the bay side of Queens Walk (between the rail crossing and the car park).

What to expect

  • On Wednesday, 3 December, qualified arborists will undertake approved minor pruning in this area and also remove four small trees within the car park area.
  • All vegetation work has been assessed and approved.
Cornelian Bay Oval Car Park

A short section of pipeline will be installed through the car park between the oval and Queens Walk.

What to expect

  • Works will begin on Thursday, 4 December and take around one week, weather permitting.
  • The work area will be fenced, temporarily reducing parking by approximately half.
  • The existing car park entrance from Queens Walk will be closed. Temporary access will be available via Bell Street.
Holiday Shutdown

Our construction sites will close from 19 December 2025 and reopen on 5 January 2026.

Upcoming Works – January 2026

From Monday, 5 January, our crews will return to the Cornelian Bay area to continue key construction activities as part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project.

Queens Walk

• Installation of the new sewer pipeline in the grassed area beside Queens Walk.
• Construction of the pipeline across Queens Walk to connect to the car park.
– This will require a full closure of this short section of Queens Walk for around one week.
• Ongoing pipeline construction along Queens Walk, which will involve progressive road closures of sections between the housing complex and Selfs Point Road.

What to expect

  • Excavators, construction vehicles, and additional workers on site.
  • Some noise from excavation and pipe-laying.
  • Fenced work zones to keep the community safe.
  • Changes to traffic movements to and from Cornelian Bay
  • The Intercity Cycleway will remain open.

All works are subject to weather and ground conditions.
