Fahan School Students Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Selfs Point

13 August 2025

Selfs Point was full of energy recently when 43 Year 8 students from Fahan School visited the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation site to discover how we manage water and wastewater in Hobart.

The students toured four key areas: the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation construction zone, the existing treatment plant, the laboratory, and a water education session featuring purified recycled water. Each was led by our subject matter experts:

We also wanted to create a chance for the students to explore career possibilities and be inspired by the incredible women already working in our business.

The students were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and left with a genuine appreciation for what we do — and how they might be part of it in the future.

This visit also offered a unique insight into one of our largest projects. This project will help modernise Hobart’s wastewater network, supporting a growing population while helping to protect the health of the Derwent.

Current work at Selfs Point focuses on constructing new concrete structures for primary and secondary treatment, alongside the new pumping station at Macquarie Point and the interconnecting pipeline.

The tour reflects our ongoing commitment to community engagement, sparking curiosity, encouraging inclusion, and connecting with the next generation through meaningful, real-world experiences.
