Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project – Upcoming Pipeline Construction Works

As part of TasWater’s commitment to delivering modern and efficient sewerage infrastructure to support Hobart’s future growth, we are undertaking one of our most significant projects to date. The Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project includes the construction of a 4.3 kilometre pipeline between Macquarie Point and Selfs Point.

Key Information

  • What: Major works for the pipeline construction.
  • When: Monday, 20 January 2025, to early April 2025 (weekdays only), between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  • Where: Northern end of Lower Domain Road, near the Domain Highway (an area not open to public access).
  • Why: The pipeline will connect the new Macquarie Point pump station to the future Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant. This streamlined system will significantly improve Hobart’s sewerage network and environmental outcomes, treating up to 25 megalitres of wastewater daily and reducing nitrogen and phosphorus entering the Derwent River by tonnes each year.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Increased construction traffic: Trucks transporting soil, pipes, and materials to and from the worksite.
  • Pipeline installation: Excavators will dig the trench, and cranes will place the pipes within the construction area.
  • Traffic impacts: While significant disruptions are not expected, minor delays may occur during the delivery of machinery or pipeline sections.
Emergency access will be prioritised.
