Queens Walk closure update

26 March 2025

We're making great progress on the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation, an essential project aimed at supporting Hobart's growth and improving environmental outcomes for a healthier Derwent River.

A key component of this transformation is the new 4.3-kilometre sewer pipeline, which will connect the new Macquarie Point Sewage Pump Station to the upgraded Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant, enhancing our wastewater management for the future.

Construction of the new sewer pipeline is well underway, with significant progress made in recent weeks. Our team has been working along Queens Walk, between the Domain Highway and Bellevue Parade. To install the new pipe, we’ve had to close this section of the road, but detours are in place to maintain access to Cornelian Bay. We’re happy to report that construction is ahead of schedule, and we expect to reopen Queens Walk to traffic before Easter.

Next, we’ll be moving construction to Lower Domain Road as part of the next phase of pipeline installation.

We’ve also been conducting investigations at the Domain Highway in preparation for the pipeline crossing. Unfortunately, we encountered unexpected and complex ground conditions, which will require some adjustments to our construction approach. We understand that this area experiences heavy traffic, so we plan to schedule our work during off-peak times to minimise disruptions. Our goal is to complete this section later in the year.

Despite these challenges, we remain on track, and the adjustment in our construction method will not affect the overall project timeline.

We’re committed to delivering this critical infrastructure while minimising disruption to the community.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we move forward with this important project.
