Selfs Point Outfall Pipeline – Upcoming Road Works on Selfs Point Road

10 October 2025

TasWater is continuing to invest in new and improved sewerage infrastructure to support Hobart’s future growth. As part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project, we are preparing to install sections of a new outfall pipeline between our treatment plant and Gas Road.

The outfall pipeline is a vital part of Hobart’s sewerage network, safely carrying treated wastewater offshore after it has passed through several carefully controlled treatment processes.

What’s happening

From Monday 27 October 2025 to early 2026, our team will be installing the new section of pipeline.
Works will occur Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm.

Where

Works will take place along Selfs Point Road, starting from near our existing treatment plant and progressing towards the end of Gas Road.

What to expect

  • Progressive single-lane closures (up to 200 metres at a time) along alternate sides of Selfs Point Road.
  • Single-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained throughout construction.
  • As each section is completed, lanes will reopen before moving to the next section.
  • A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place through work areas.
  • Traffic management will ensure the safety of workers and road users.

Please note that closure sections may vary depending on ground conditions.
