Upcoming Domain Highway and Queens Walk Closures – Important information for heavy vehicle operators

8 September 2025

As part of these works, the Domain Highway between the Tasman Bridge and the Brooker Highway will involve a mix of full and single-lane closures from October 3rd to October 6th.

These changes will affect B-Double vehicles and vehicles over 4.3 metres in height. Please review the information below carefully to ensure compliance and minimise disruption to your operations.

B-Double Vehicles

Northbound Movements

B-Doubles travelling northbound on the Brooker Highway must use the following alternate route:

  1. Travel via the Tasman Highway and Davey Street to Evans Street.
  2. Turn left onto Evans Street.
  3. Turn right onto Macquarie Street.
  4. Turn left onto the Brooker Highway and proceed northbound through the Railway Roundabout.

Important: Use of Liverpool Street (a Hobart City Council road) is not approved due to lane width and stacking distance constraints at the Railway Roundabout.

Southbound Movements

For southbound travel, B-Doubles must use the following alternate route:

  • Via the Brooker Highway and Macquarie Street, then onto the Tasman Highway.

Important: Do not use Liverpool Street past the pool for southbound movements.

Vehicles Over 4.3m in Height

Westbound from Cambridge

High vehicles (e.g., car carriers) face clearance restrictions:

  • Cannot use the Tasman Bridge westbound if Domain Road is closed, due to limited clearance under the Domain Highway flyover (near Government House).
  • Cannot turn onto the East Derwent Highway, due to vertical clearance restrictions on the Tasman Highway overpass at the East Derwent slip lane.

Alternate Route:

  • Vehicles should be diverted via Richmond Road.
  • To avoid backtracking through Rosny Hill Road or Clarence Council’s network, diversion is recommended at either the Acton Road junction or the Airport junction.
  • From there, follow the Richmond Road – Colebrook Road – Tea Tree Road route back to the Midland Highway, providing access north or south via the Brooker Highway.

Eastbound Vehicles Over 4.3m

Vehicles travelling eastbound on the Tasman Highway must:

  • Approach the Tasman Bridge using the right-hand lane to ensure safe clearance under the Domain Highway flyover.
to ensure safe clearance under the Domain Highway flyover.

We understand these changes may cause some disruption and sincerely thank the community for their patience and cooperation as we deliver this vital project for Hobart’s future.
