Upcoming Works – Queens Walk and Cornelian Bay

19 December 2025

TasWater is carrying out the next stage of construction as part of the Selfs Point Sewer Transformation Project. We know Queens Walk and Cornelian Bay are well-used and valued by the community, so we want to provide clear information about what’s happening and what to expect in early January 2026.

Queens Walk Road Closure

What’s happening
To install the next section of the sewer pipeline, a short section of Queens Walk will be closed between Bell Street and the northern end of the Cornelian Bay car park. A diagram is included for reference.

When
Monday 5 January → Friday 16 January 2026

What to expect
During the closure, you may notice:

  • No through-traffic between Bell Street and Selfs Point Road
  • Increased workers, trucks, and construction equipment on site
  • Fenced work areas for safety
  • Some noise from excavation and pipe installation
  • Changes to traffic movements around Cornelian Bay
  • Reduced speed limits and traffic management are in place
  • The Intercity Cycleway remains open
  • Reduced car parking in the southern section of the car park (access via Bell Street)
  • Pedestrian access is maintained between Bellevue Parade, the playground, and the Boathouse areas
Other Works in the Area

We will also begin installing the pipeline within the grassed area on the eastern side of Queens Walk, between the Intercity Cycleway and the new pipeline crossing.

When
Monday 5 January → Friday 30 January 2026

What to expect

  • Increased construction activity, including workers and machinery
  • Fenced work areas for safety
  • Some construction noise
  • Reduced speed limits and traffic management are in place
  • The Intercity Cycleway remains open
  • Pedestrian access is maintained between Bellevue Parade, the playground, and the Boathouse areas
What’s Coming Next

Once this stage is complete, pipeline construction will move closer to the housing complex along Queens Walk. This will involve progressive closures of sections of Queens Walk between Bell Street and Selfs Point Road. We will provide updates before this next stage begins.

We understand construction can be disruptive and thank the community for their patience while these important upgrades are carried out. TasWater is working hard to minimise impacts and keep the community informed.
