UPDATE: Regatta Grounds Car Park – Partial Closure

16 January 2026

To avoid any potential impacts on key community-based events in the Regatta Grounds area, we have postponed construction of the next section of the new sewer pipeline through the Regatta Grounds Car Park.

Pipeline construction that will involve the temporary closure of the Regatta Grounds Car Park will now be from Thursday 12 February to mid-March 2026.

Where this is happening
  • The lower section of the car park (river side) will be closed
  • The upper section (Regatta Grounds side) will remain open
What’s happening

We’re constructing the next section of the new 4.3-kilometre sewer pipeline between the Macquarie Point Sewage Pump Station and the Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant.

Key construction dates
  • 12 February – 10 March: Site establishment, fencing, and construction and the car park is partially closed

Please note: Dates may change due to weather or ground conditions.

Hours of work
  • Monday to Friday: 7 am–5 pm
  • Saturday: 7 am–5 pm
What to expect
  • One-way access from McVilly Drive into the upper car park and to the Domain boat ramp and foreshore area
  • Exit via a temporary road through the Regatta Grounds grassed area
  • Construction machinery, including excavators and rock breaking
  • Fenced work areas and an increased workforce on-site
  • Clear signage is in place. Please follow all signs and observe speed limits

A diagram showing the closure area is included on this page for reference.

We are aware that the Regatta Grounds car park is well-used, and we understand that these temporary changes may cause some disruption. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we deliver this important infrastructure for Hobart.
