Traffic changes on Davey Street and Southern Outlet

23 February 2026

As part of TasWater’s commitment to providing clean and reliable water drinking water to Tasmania, we’re installing a new water main to join the water mains from Davey Street to the water main running through Fitzroy Gardens (near Digney Street).

What to expect:

  • Where: Davey Street and Southern Outlet, Hobart.
  • When: From Monday 2 March 2026 to Monday 30 March 2026 during off-peak times, from 6:30pm-6am Monday – Friday.
  • What: One lane of Davey Street (heading to Southern Outlet) will be closed for approximately 50 metres between 220 Davey Steet and the Davey Street/Southern Outlet intersection, for a 4-week period from Monday 2 March 2026 to Monday 30 March 2026.
  • Out of hours: The road and traffic will be reinstated and operate normally outside of our working hours. This ensures that regular traffic flow will not be affected during these times that we are not actively undertaking work.

There will be a reduced speed limit, and traffic will be managed through the site between the working hours of 6:30pm – 6am for 200m along Davey Street (Between Antill Street and Southern Outlet) and continuing for 50m along the Southern Outlet.

There will be no changes to on street parking along Davey Street.

Access will still be available to the Southern Outlet via one lane on Davey Street; therefore, no detours will be required.

Traffic controllers will manage traffic flows through the Davey Street work area, if necessary.

Please allow for up to approximately 10 minutes in additional travel time if traveling between 6:30pm-6am Monday-Friday and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

We understand that these closures can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience as we deliver this important project.

Works are subject to ground conditions and contractor availability.
