Winning Mural Brings Tolosa Tanks to Life

19 December 2024

Design 1 "Mount Gould and Styx River" has been chosen by the community as the winning design, by a margin of 8 votes. The artwork takes the viewer on the river's journey, starting at the untouched peaks in lutruwita/Tasmania through Styx River before finally arriving in the Tolosa Street Reservoir.

Artist, Harrison Bowe captured the inspiration photos himself by venturing to Mount Gould on two separate trips. He hiked up Mount Gould and kayaked through Styx River.

The tank on the left depicts a northerly morning aspect from Mt Gould on the Duane Range. Located within the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, the mountain range is made of dolerite, later formed by periods of gasification well over 150 million years ago. The ridge line which winds its way through the image marks the very start of a journey the water takes to end up in the Derwent River.

The tank on the right depicts a section of the Styx River which begins in the South West National Park. Winding through some of the tallest trees on the earth, the Styx eventually flows into the Derwent.
