Fewer interruptions, better performance

15 January 2026

New pipeline

Our proposed fifth Price and Service Plan (PSP5) is about more than pipes and pumps – it’s about trust. When you turn on the tap or flush the toilet, you trust it will work. But ageing infrastructure and growing demand mean we need to act now to keep services safe and reliable for years to come. PSP5 is our roadmap to make that happen.

What is the problem?

Our water and sewerage systems are showing their age. Many pipes and treatment plants were built decades ago and are under strain. Breaks and bursts happen too often, and climate change plus population growth add extra pressure.

Customers told us they want fewer interruptions, faster fixes and water they can rely on.

We couldn’t agree more.

What is the plan?

If approved by the Tasmanian Economic Regulator, we will invest $228 million to renew and upgrade critical infrastructure. That means replacing old pipes, modernising treatment plants, and installing smart monitoring systems to catch problems early. These upgrades will make our system stronger, safer and more efficient.

What are the goals?

By 2030, we aim to:

  • Cut water main breaks from 42.8 to 16 per 100 km.
  • Reduce sewer breaks from 63.9 to 20 per 100 km.
  • Halve water leakage from 20.7 per cent to 10 per cent.
  • Limit repeat interruptions to less than 0.5 per cent of customers.

Why it matters

PSP5 is about building a stronger, smarter network so Tasmanians can rely on safe water and sewerage services every day.

Safe and reliable services were one of the top priorities in our PSP5 community survey. People told us:

“The age of infrastructure is causing leakages. It’s critical that leakage be addressed. It’s cheaper to replace infrastructure today than tomorrow – but cheaper again if done yesterday.”

We can’t fix it yesterday, but we can get to work on it today.
